The Greek Turkish Forum met in Athens on January 13-14, for their first meeting in 2020. At the end of the two-day meeting, the members decided to release a statement, which noted the rising tension in bilateral relations with respect to developments in the Eastern Mediterranean. The GTF urged all sides to refrain from inflammatory statements and actions, and called on Ankara and Athens to keep the dialogue channels open.
The GTF also welcomed the commitment of the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot leaders to achieve a settlement on the Island based on bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality while stressing that peace, stability and economic cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean would be boosted by a settlement of the Cyprus issue.
