Several GTF members participated the reopening ceremony of the restored Armenian Church in the Northern part of Nicosia on October 30, 2015. The restoration project was started in 2007 as a part of the larger peace-building effort on the Island to remind Cypriots’ of their common heritage.
Besides Messrs. Constantinos Yiorkadjis and Mehmet Harmancı, Greek and Turkish Mayors of Nicosia respectively, Mr. Georgios Markopouliotis, the head of the EU Delegation in Cyprus, Mr Lellos P. Demetriades, former Mayor of Nicosia and partner of then Mayor Mr Mustafa Akıncı, Mr. Androulla Vassileiou, former EU Commissioner, Mr. Costa Carras, the Greek Coordinator of the GTF, Messrs. Elias Clis and Ioannis N. Grigoriadis, members of the GTF, attended the opening ceremony.
The GTF members expressed their positive opinions and their supports for initiatives that improves the dialogue between the Turkish Cypriots and the Greek Cypriots, while building a trust between them on the Island.
