Achilleas Demetriades

Achilleas Demetriades is a member of the GTF since 2007. He joined Lellos P Demetriades Law Office LLC in 1988 where he is a partner. He read Law at Southampton University where he received his LL.B and attended the Georgetown University Law Centre, where he received his LL.M in International Law. He was also called to the English Bar in 1985. He litigates human rights cases both before the Cyprus Courts, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), the Turkish Immovable Property Commission (IPC), and the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). He is sought after for his expertise in representing clients before the ECtHR and he successfully conducted the first case before the ECtHR against Cyprus, Modinos v Cyprus, and the first against Turkey, Loizidou v Turkey. He is also a European Patent Attorney, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has a keen interest in intellectual property matters, acting only on behalf of rights-holders and preparing and executing anti-piracy plans. Finally, he advises on pharmaceutical regulatory matters and competition law. He is a founding member of the Copyright Association in Cyprus, Chairman of the Human Rights Committee in the Cyprus Bar Association as well as a founding member of the NGO TRUTH NOW in Cyprus. He is frequently asked to speak on human rights matters, particularly with regard to the property issues and missing persons, arising from the Cyprus Problem.
