Following his graduation from The English School he started his university studies at The Faculty of Political Science of Ankara University. During his senior year there, the intercommunal events of December 1963 started which led him to cut his studies short and join the first group of Turkish resistance fighters to land to Kokkina (Erenköy). He was later joined by his two brothers one of whom was martyred.

In February of 1966 he returned to Ankara and completed his studies. He was refused entry to Cyprus due to his involvement in the resistance of Erenköy and was obliged to stay in Ankara where he started working with “Marubeni Corporation” of Japan for 10 years.

In 1976 he finally returned to Cyprus and got appointed as the Vice-President of CTIH (Cyprus Turkish Industrial Holding) Group in N.Cyprus; responsible to run 40 State owned factories, with more than 1000 employees.

In 1978 he established his own family company ERNA Ltd dealing mainly in import and export of miscellanious items.

In 1983 he moved to London as the General Manager of Entrade Ltd.(A subsidiary of ENKA Turkey) where he worked for two years.

In 1985 he moved back to Cyprus and re-organised his company as Erdil and Sons Ltd. dealing in marketing of construction materials and acting as investment consultants for foreign investors. Danya University Dorms at EMU with 500 bed capacity and, Karpaz Bay Resort Marina with 300 yacht capacity are among the major foreign investments he helped bring to North Cyprus.

All throughout his carrier Erdil Nami has shown great interest in civil society activities. He became one of the founding members of the “Cyprus Turkish Businesmen Association” and its 2nd President. During that period the UN sponsored confidence building measures that included the return of Varosha to its original inhabitants in exchange for opening of the closed Nicosia Airport for the use of both communities was tabled and the Businessmen Association gave its full support this despite serious internal opposition by the than ruling politcal establishment.

In 2006 Erdil Nami got elected as the President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, a responsibility he carried for two years. During this period relations of the Chamber with the EU developed so much so that the Chamber was instrumental in securing €259 million financial aid from EU as financial assistance to the Turkish Cypriot community following the rejection of the Annan Plan by the Greek Cypriot side.

Erdil Nami participated in numerous bi communal activities both in and out of Cyprus. The one he was invited in 1994 in USA by the Fulbright Organisation was the first one to take place outside of Cyprus after 1974. This later evolved in to the “The Harvard Study Group” Chaired by Prof. Robert Rotberg of Harvard.

His civil society activities were not confined to the business world and the Cyprus issue. Erdil Nami was also the Chair Person of the Austrian based SOS Kinderdorf in North Cyprus for 17years (1996-2013).

At present he is an active member of Cyprus Businessmen, Investors and Economy Association.

Erdil Nami is married with Semray Nami and is the proud father of two sons and a daughter.
