Murat E. Sungar

Ambassador Sungar joined Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1968. He served in various capacities in Brussels, Islamabad, Washington D.C., New York. He also served as an Ambassador to India (1991-1995) and Ambassador to the United Nations’ Office in Geneva (1998-2002). He was appointed as Secretary General of European Union Affairs in 2002 and served until 2005. He was the First Deputy Secretary General of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation between 2006-2009. Since 2009, he has been a Board Member of Open Society Foundation.

Ambassador Sungar graduated from the School of Political Sciences of the Ankara University. He also obtained an M.A. degree in International Relations from the University of Cincinnati, in the U.S.A.
